The download is a proper .xlsx built in your browser — two named worksheets, bold header rows, sensible column widths — that opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, and LibreOffice with accented names intact. Everything is written as text cells, so GEDCOM date forms like ABT 1900 and IDs with leading zeros survive exactly as they are in the file.
Individuals has one row per person: ID, given name, surname, sex, birth and death dates and places, occupation, the IDs of their father, mother, and spouses, and any notes. Families has one row per couple, with both partners, the marriage date and place, and every child. Because the family links are preserved as IDs, you can sort, filter, and pivot freely without losing who belongs to whom.
If the destination is a script, a database import, or anything that wants plain text, the GEDCOM to CSV converter produces the same two tables as UTF-8 CSV files instead.
